Our History

Open Door Baptist Church began on the first Sunday in February 1981. Pastor Ray Haselhuhn and his family founded the church. On October 25, 1981, twenty-four people joined together to charter Open Door Baptist Church and it became an official church in the Midland community.

The original church facility was built at its present location in 1983 by church members on 12.5 acres of land donated by a local businessman. In 1991, growth created the need for an addition to allow room for Sunday School classrooms, a fellowship hall, and expanded nursery facilities. In 1994, the sanctuary was refurbished and bathroom facilities downstairs were broadened.

On October 27, 1996, Pastor Haselhuhn accepted a new position of Senior Pastor at another church. Pastor Jody Ellis was elected on December 15, 1996, to lead the congregation of Open Door Baptist Church.

In 2020, our downstairs was flooded due to complications from a 500-year flood in the area. The basement was completely redone by the people of the church.

Pastor Ellis retired from the pastorate in October 2022. In March of 2023, we called Pastor Joshua Ewing to become the new pastor of Open Door Baptist Church. He accepted, and Pastor Ewing's first official service was May 14th.
